One Estate, One Generation of Pipes

Built in one run of years

Woodberry's housing estate went in through the 1970s and 80s, and its public school opened in 1973 as the streets filled. Most houses sit on one level, clad in brick veneer, weatherboard or fibro, and many still drain through the earthenware sewer and stormwater pipe they were built with.

Where that pipe gives way

Earthenware joints sit in reactive clay that expands after rain and contracts in drought, so the joints open a fraction at a time. Mature gums and street plantings across the older estate send fine roots into those gaps, and a slow line turns into a full blockage. The drain camera finds the joint before anyone digs.

Tanks from the same years

Plenty of the hot water units fitted in those first years have long outlasted their design life, and an old cylinder can fail with no warning at all.

Rain, Flat Ground and the Lines Below

Low ground, slow water

Much of Woodberry lies on the lower Hunter floodplain at about 9m above sea level, with the swamp wetland spreading over the rural west and north. Groundwater sits close under the lawns, so rain has little room to soak away and the stormwater pipes carry the whole load.

When the river rises

Roads out to Millers Forest and Tarro can go under in a Hunter flood, yet the residential ridge stays reachable. Average rainfall here is 1,002mm a year, and in a heavy downpour the downpipes and yard pits back up before anything else.

Leaf-choked gutters feed those pits, so gutter guards help, and stormwater drain clearing deals with the pipes underneath.

Is there a call-out fee for a Woodberry visit?

It costs nothing to get us out to your door (excluding after-hours). Visits after dark or on weekends are billed at the after-hours rate, and we quote that rate over the phone first. Describe what the fault looks like and the right gear comes with us.

Do you really answer the phone in the middle of the night?

Yes. We are Available 24/7, and the floodplain does not check the clock before a flexi hose lets go or a drain surcharges in a storm. Ring, describe what you can see, and we book the job.

Can you clear a blocked drain without excavating?

Yes, as long as the pipe is still intact. The camera goes down first to show what is in the line, then high-pressure water or the eel clears it, and a second camera pass proves the run is clean. Digging only enters the conversation if the pipe has collapsed.

What hot water systems do you install?

Heat pump, solar, electric storage, instant electric, gas storage and continuous-flow gas. Original units on the 1970s-80s estate are decades past replacement age, so we weigh repair or replacement honestly, and a temporary hot water tank can go in while the new system is sorted.

Are your quotes actually fixed?

Yes. The figure we name covers the work described, and it does not move once you approve it. If the scope grows mid-job, we stop and talk options before anything extra is billed.

Do you cover my street?

We cover Woodberry plus Millers Forest, Heatherbrae, Tomago, Tarro, Beresfield and Thornton. When the river floods, the low roads can go under while the ridge stays open, so we confirm the route before setting out.
