What Does the Jetter Do?

A plunger shifts what sits in the trap under the fixture. The jetter cleans the whole line.

  • Grease and fat built up along a kitchen sewer from years of washing up
  • Sludge and silt washed into stormwater lines from the flat floodplain ground
  • Fine root threads that have found their way into a cracked joint and spread inside the pipe
  • Soap residue and scale clinging to the walls of an older clay run

A blockage that keeps coming back points to walls that are still coated. The jetter scours them clean instead of just punching a hole through the middle of the clog.

How the Jetting Runs, Step by Step

Every jetting job starts with the camera, not the water.

  1. 01

    Film the line first

The drain camera shows what is in the pipe, its material, and the distance to the problem.

  2. 02

Pick the pressure to suit the pipe

An earthenware line from the seventies gets a gentler setting than PVC, so the clean does not stress old joints.

  3. 03

    Run the jetter through

High-pressure water cuts the blockage and scrubs the walls as it travels, flushing the debris down the line.

  4. 04

    Film the line again

A second pass with the camera shows the run is clear end to end, and you see the footage either way.

The camera work sits on the CCTV drain inspection page if you want the full detail of what the footage shows.

What Moves the Figure on a Jetting Job?

  • Distance Jetting a sewer across a big rural-residential block takes longer than a short house line.
  • Pipe type Earthenware and old clay need a slower, more careful pass than PVC.
  • Access One overflow gully in a boggy yard, or none at all, slows the set-up.
  • The clock A 2am backup is charged at the after-hours rate, quoted before the jetter leaves the van.

Flat Ground, Wet Lines and This Suburb

Damp pipes collect more

Woodberry is low floodplain country, about 9m above sea level, and groundwater sitting high beneath the swamp stops drains drying out between rains. A pipe that stays damp holds silt and grease on its walls, and 1,002mm of average yearly rain lands on ground slow to shed it.

Old joints in reactive clay

Many houses from the 1970s-80s estate still have earthenware sewer lines, and the clay beneath them moves enough to crack a joint. Established gums across the older streets find those cracks. Jetting strips the root threads while the camera watches for the gap they came through.

If the damage goes past a clean-out, tree root removal cuts a solid mass, and pipe relining seals a cracked section without digging.

When We're Not the Right Call

A collapsed section of pipe is not a jetting job. High-pressure water will not rebuild a broken line, and forcing it through can wash out the surrounding ground. The camera shows a collapse before we start, and that conversation moves to repair or relining instead.

Questions Before You Book a Jetting Job

What is the difference between jetting and an electric eel?

The jetter pushes water at high pressure through the line, stripping grease and sludge off the pipe walls as it goes. The eel is a mechanical cable with a cutting head, better suited to a solid root mass. We pick the tool the line needs, and the camera shows us which one that is.

Does jetting use chemicals?

No. The jetter does its work with water alone, so there is nothing harsh going into the sewer or stormwater line and nothing left behind afterwards. The force of the water does all the scouring.

Will jetting damage the old earthenware pipes under my Woodberry home?

The camera identifies the pipe first, and the pressure setting is chosen to suit it. An older earthenware run gets a gentler clean than a PVC line, and the camera pass afterwards confirms the pipe is intact.

How long does a jetting job take?

A short suburban house line is quicker to clean than a long rural-residential sewer running out to the boundary. You hear the fixed figure before the jetter starts, and the after-clear camera check is part of the job.

The blocked drains page sets out how every clearing job runs, with jetting as one tool among several.
